RE: Maine / New Hampshire Coast Campers.... Help....

Clam Boils, especially those from the New Bedford, MA Area are excellent faire and usually consist of: Steamer Clams (Soft Shell Clams, NOT Hard Shell Clams which are more properly called Quahogs, which include Little Necks, Count Necks, Cherry Stones, Stuffers, Bulls and Chowders.) Onions White or Red Potato's Fish, Wrapped in Paper so as to kept it together. Hot Dog Sausage Linguica and/or Cherico (If the "Boil" is served Portugese Style) Sweet Corn Sometimes Lobster This method of cookery is usually 'made up', cooked and served in the throw-away Aluminum Pans you might use to cook a small Turkey in. The pan is loaded, then sealed with aluminum foil over the top and then several are put into a Steamer, the hot steam is turned on and the "Boil" is cooked. Release the steam, serve with beer or any beverage of your choice. The Old Fashioned New England Clam Bake has the same ingredients but is 'built' over a pit that is lined with stones. A wood fire is built on the stones early on the morning of the "bake". The fire is allowed to burn down to coals and the pit is then raked to clean the coals off the stones, which have absorbed a load of the heat. The pit is then lined with sea weed, the clams, in baskets or nylon mesh bags are stacked on the sea weed, the rest of the ingrediants are put into the pit with the Lobsters going on the top. The "Bake master" supervises the building of the bake and runs the crew that eventually spreads wet canvass over the top of the food, to seal in the heat and steam. The Clam BAKE then sets there and BAKES for a long enough time to cook everything. Others are opening Hard Shells or Quahogs, (Count Neck or Little Neck sized), on the Half Shell, set on crushed ice to keep em cold, others are building a Quahog Chowder. The Little Necks are placed near the Bar so one can wash em down with your favorite beverage. Everyone then sets down at the long picknick tables, covered in Newspapers to absorb the juices, the Chowder is served and the BakeMaster gives the orders to uncover the bake. The steam coming off the pit calls everyone's appatite to attention, the Bake Master supervises the distribution of the bake contents, which are distributed amongst the tables and everyone has a good feed. After the goodies are all served and ate up, the tables are cleared and trays of iced watermelon are severed to all. Eat Hearty and Give a rowsing Cheer for The Bake Master and All the Crew that did the work!!!! That's some good soundin' stuff. I agree...your post has made me so hungry!! :B Mike

RE: Opinion on the newer ultra-lite rigs.

Hi MinnesotaDreaming, Glad to read in your post that no one got hurt. I've owned a light weight framed trailer for almost ten years. one of the things I've read is you have to be carefull not to drop or bottom out the trailer because this could damage or bend the frame. A lot of the light weight trailers have a low profile (like mine) so this even becomes more important. If I'm in a situation were I might bottom out I just take it real easy/slow, so far after almost ten years no problems. Hope this helps :) Mike

RE: Is RV travel down a lot?

On our first trip to Ocean Lakes at Myrtle Beach for April school Vacation one of the regulars there told us they never seen the place with so many empty sites at that time of year. But when we went to Salisbury Beach State campground in MA for a five day trip we found the place packed and when we went to Odetah in CT for our Columbus Day weekend trip I noticd the campground was just as busy as my trip from two years before. Some of the other trips I took this year I didn't notice any changes either. So as far as I see it...it's a tough call to make. Mike

RE: battery

I pull out mine in the fall and store in my celler. In the spring I'll make sure it's topped off with distilled water. I'll plug in my TT for a day or so to make sure it's recharged. Mike

RE: How much time should a person take at the dump station?

About 10 to 11 minutes for me which includes having my son in the bathroom which I'll hand him the frest water hose through the bathroom window to refill the black water tank for one minute and then I'll reflush out the black water tank. Were really hopping when were doing this. Mike

RE: No water preasure on one side of kitchen sink?

There should be a inlet strainer on the cold and hot water side. Mine has pluged up before. Remove the hot and cold water handles and unscrew the water valve stems, the strainers should be on the inlet of the stems. Hope this helps Mike

RE: Last trip of the season.......

I will pull my camper batterie out and store it in my celler over the winter. I know a lot of people don't like covering there camper over the winter but I do cover mine with a quality cover. The thing I do that I think that helps is I remove my cover in early april before the humidity comes in. Mike

RE: Virginia Beach Campgrounds

About 45 minutes away from VA beach is cherrystoneva.com probably one of the best campgrounds on the East Coast. What we did was take some day trips to VA beach... just another idea to think about. Mike

RE: Washing your Trailer with what????

This is the order in how I clean my trailer. First I wash the my roof with B.E.S.T. Rubber roof cleaner and Protectant. Second remove any black streaks with Korkay black streak remover (quick rince after) Third I Bleach my Moldings with Starbrite Mildew Stain Remover. (Quick rince after) Forth I wash the trailer with a mild Detergent. Last I Wax the trailer with GEL-GLOSS 12oz spray on cans. (usually the next day after the trailer is dryed off) My trailer is almost Ten years old and still looks brand new. Mike

RE: Very Sad To Read The Winterization Threads....

As far as "the big one" I'm hoping that if and when it hits, our property will become beach-front property! Then you might need the help of Lex Luthor!! :B :B

RE: Very Sad To Read The Winterization Threads....

Here in CT we get three full seasons and for the most part our summers are not that continuous blazing heat and humidity that they get down in the south. And if it does get to hot in the summer were just a stones throw from the Adirondacks,White Mountains and Maine. ;) I've got one more trip planned for Columbus Day Weekend then I'll be winterizing the week after.
